Here Come the Bunraku Bandits!

"I'm sorry. The what bandits?" Let me break it down:

Bunraku: The Japanese style of puppetry that our puppeteers practice. Our "kids" are nearly life-size childlike puppets that the puppeteers control to bring the show to life. Instead of hiding under the stage or behind a drape, our puppeteers dress all in black and perform in front of a black drape. The idea behind this form of puppetry is that the puppeteers will be perceived as the shadow of the puppet so that the audience can direct their focus on the puppets.

So where do the bandits come in?

Well...the words just sound so good together. “Bunraku bandits”--hard to resist, right?

So who are these bandits?

“The Bunrkau Bandits” is the name for the South Central Kentucky Kids on the Block spelling team. That’s right—our spelling team. Our organization will be participating in the 4th Annual Spell-a-Bration, hosted by Community Education of Bowling Green and sponsored by Hill’s Pet Nutrition. The Spell-a-Bration is an adult spelling bee that allows the organization to raise funds to support childcare costs and adult enrichment classes. In addition to the spelling bee, there will be prizes for spirit, team name, and costume (and trust me, we have bandit costumes in the works). It promises to be a night of food, entertainment, spelling, and general fun/madness.

Beware, Bowling Green. Here come the Bunraku Bandits!

Help the bandits steal the show by attending as a cheerleader!
